No alliance with Akali Dal for Punjab elections: BJP

Punjab: Punjab BJP Working President Ashwani Sharma said on Tuesday that his party will not contest the 2027 state assembly elections in alliance with its estranged partner, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Two days earlier, his party colleague and former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had also advocated the same. After a party meeting here, he said the BJP would not form any alliance for the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.
He also intensified his attack on the state’s ruling AAP, accusing it of “stifling democracy.” He alleged that ever since the AAP formed the government in 2022, it has been “misusing the government machinery to manipulate elections.” He claimed, “The same methods used to make AAP mayors and presidents in municipal elections are now being used for the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.”
