Nirmala Sitharaman congratulates Ajay Banga on becoming the President of the World Bank

New Delhi (IANS) | Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday congratulated former Indian-American Mastercard chief Ajay Banga on becoming the President of the World Bank. Hearty congratulations to Ajay Banga on being elected as the President of the World Bank, he said in a tweet. I am sure that you will use your vast experience in the corporate world to meet the objectives of the Bank.
Banga, who was elected on Wednesday as the new President of the World Bank, most recently served as Vice President at General Atlantic. The Board will discuss the World Bank Group development process at its April 2023 meetings and the World Bank Group’s overall ambitions and efforts to work with Banga to address the most pressing development challenges facing developing countries, the World Bank said in a statement. Looking forward to The President of the World Bank Group is also the Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).


He is also the ex-officio Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and the Governing Council of the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
