New Zealand beat Afghanistan in first match of World Cup

New Zealand started the T20 World Cup with a win. They won the match against Afghanistan by 5 wickets today. Chasing a target of 183 runs, New Zealand chased it down in 17.5 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Tim Seifert (65) scored a half-century for New Zealand, while Glenn Phillips (42), Mark Chapman (28) and Daryl Mitchell (25 not out) excelled.

Afghanistan bowlers Mujeeb Rahman took 2 wickets, Omarzai, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi took one wicket each. Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 182 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Gulbadin Nabi (63) scored a half-century. Sediqullah Atal (29), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (27) and Darwiz Rasooli (20) tried their best.

Atal and Gulbadin put on a 79-run partnership for the third wicket. Omarzai (14) was run out in the end. Among the New Zealand bowlers, Ferguson took 2 wickets, while Henry, Duffy and Rachin Ravindra took a wicket each.
