New flyover constructed at a cost of Rs 60 crore at Central Kailash in Chennai: CM inaugurates it

Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday inaugurated a new ‘L’-shaped flyover, constructed for public use, in Chennai’s Central Kailash area, costing ₹60.68 crore.

This ‘L’-shaped bridge, connecting Charan Patel Road and Rajiv Gandhi Road, will significantly reduce traffic congestion on the roads leading to Adyar, Guindy, and Taramani.

Ministers E.V. Velu, M.R.K. Panneerselvam, M.A. Subramanian, Highways and Minor Ports Secretary R. Selvaraj, and others attended the flyover inauguration ceremony.

The flyover begins at Chattar Patel Road in Chennai’s Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Central Kailash area. The intersection of these two roads forms a ‘T’ shape. This area experiences heavy traffic congestion during business hours. Keeping this in mind, the ‘L’-shaped flyover was planned from Chattar Patel Road to Rajiv Gandhi Salai. Subsequently, the Highways Department constructed a single-lane flyover.

Vehicles traveling from Guindy to Rajiv Gandhi Road (Old Mahabalipuram Road) will use this bridge, while all vehicles traveling from Adyar to Guindy will be able to easily cross this area.

Furthermore, left turns from Guindy to Adyar and from Old Mahabalipuram Road to Guindy will be made possible. The traffic signal at Central Kailash Junction will also be deactivated.

The total length of this flyover, including the approach road, is 652 meters. The bridge is designed with a curve where it separates from Patel Road to Rajiv Gandhi Road. The bridge’s width has been increased in that area and it is designed to operate at a speed of only 30 km per hour.

According to a government press release, the opening of this flyover will reduce traffic congestion and travel time in the Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Guindy, Adyar, and Central Kailash areas.
