Lucknow: A newborn child has suffered the brunt of the gross negligence of the doctor and nurse at KGMU Trauma Center. Due to negligence during dialysis in the PICU ward, dirt got stuck in the child’s throat. When the family had difficulty in breathing, they pleaded with the staff. They went to the rest room and pleaded but the doctors sleeping there did not wake up. The nurses kept playing on their mobile phones. On the request of the family, the staff kept laughing instead of attending to the patient. After some time, the child died. The video of the incident has also gone viral on social media. The angry family created a ruckus in the hospital due to the negligence. They have also made a written complaint to the KGMU administration against the doctors and staff.

Jitendra Yadav, a resident of Nandanagar, Gorakhpur, works as a shuttering worker. His son Abhyudaya (9 months) had rashes on his body. Jitendra had admitted his son to the pediatric ward of George Medical University (KGMU) on May 28 under the supervision of Dr. Mala Kumar. He was discharged after about a week. The child was completely healthy. After a few days, he complained of pneumonia. The family brought the child to KGMU’s trauma center again on June 6. Here, he was turned away citing the reason of no empty bed in the ICU. The family took him to a private hospital in Gomti Nagar. According to the father, he was being charged more here. After this, he was admitted to the PICU of the pediatric ward of trauma on June 14. Uncle Praveen Yadav said that when the condition worsened, the doctor advised 72 hours of dialysis. For this, two kits worth 28 thousand each and water used in dialysis worth 17 thousand were ordered.

It is alleged that on Thursday night the nurse operated the dialysis machine after watching YouTube. After the blood from the child’s body went into the machine, the machine stopped. The blood could not go back into the child’s body. A lot of blood flowed out, which the staff threw in the garbage. Due to negligence in dialysis, dirt got stuck in the child’s throat at around 2 o’clock on Thursday night. Due to this, he started having difficulty in breathing. The family pleaded with the staff. They went to the rest room and kept pleading, but the sleeping doctor did not wake up. The nurse kept playing on her mobile. The staff kept laughing at the request of the family. No one came to do suction (removing dirt from the machine). The family did the suction themselves. After some time, the child died. Mother Babita fainted several times while crying due to the death of her only son.

The family says that they made a video of the negligence of the doctors and made it viral on social media and pleaded for help. The officials who reached the spot threatened legal action for making the video in the AICU and pressured them to delete the video. The police scolded the attendants. A police inspector said that if you complain, the body of the child will be declared unclaimed. The family has made a written complaint to the KGMU administration alleging negligence. The names of the doctors and staff responsible are also written in the complaint.

His condition was continuously getting critical. The family members were also being informed about his condition. Dialysis was done in case of kidney failure. He was also kept on ventilator support. But he could not be saved due to cardiac arrest.
