Maharashtra: Seeing the success of the ‘Sediment Free Dam, Silt Filled Shivar’ campaign run last year, District Collector Jalaj Sharma has appealed to start this campaign again from February 1 and make the campaign successful with public participation. Additional Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Dr. Arjun Gunde, District Water Conservation Officer Rajaram Jhurawat, District Superintendent Agriculture Officer Kailash Shirsat, all Taluka Water Conservation Officers and National President of Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana Nandkishore Sakhla were present in the review meeting of ‘Sediment Free Dam, Silt Free Shivar’ scheme held in the central room of the District Collector’s office. District Collector Sharma said that since water will be circulated for the Rabi season, the level of the dams will be lower than today.
Therefore, if the campaign is started from February 1, the work of removing silt from the dam area before the monsoon will definitely be done on a large scale. He suggested that the campaign should be started from those talukas where water storage is currently low. Nagar Palika, Nagar Parishad, charitable organisations should be involved in this campaign, silt removed from the dam area should be made available free of cost to farmers, nursery owners, municipal corporations, municipal councils and parks and extensive awareness should be created to make the citizens aware about this campaign, district collector Sharma suggested in the meeting.
