Aryanpet: A male leopard roaming in the fields of Kamasanpalli village of Damaragidda mandal here on Saturday afternoon was found ill and died while being taken for treatment. When the villagers informed the forest officials, they immediately reached the village and saw that the leopard was ill. When this information was shared with the officials of Zoological Park Nehru, Hyderabad, a team of officials reached the spot and conducted initial treatment. However, when they tried to shift the leopard to the zoological park to receive additional treatment, it died near Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet DFO Veena said. As per initial observation, forest officials noticed that the leopard was partially blind. This, he said, was evident from the fact that it moved towards the outskirts of the village and despite local residents taking photographs and videos from the vicinity, there was no resistance from the leopard. Ruling out territorial fights involving other wild animals, the DFO said there were no external wounds or marks on the leopard. Regarding the possibility that the leopard consumed poison or the cattle died from poison, the DFO said those details could be confirmed based on post-mortem information.
