Nagaland: The 5th edition of the Rusoma Orange Festival 2026 will be held on January 30 and 31 at the Rusoma Local Ground, under the aegis of the Rusoma Village Council, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture, Department of Rural Development, and several other government departments.
Addressing a press conference at Vivid Lounge on January 22, Neisatuonuo Zale, a member of the organizing committee, informed that this year’s festival is being held under the theme “Abundance of Rusoma,” highlighting the significance and celebration of the abundance of Rusoma oranges, along with other agricultural and horticultural organic products and local handicrafts.
Neisatuonuo also informed that the festival will feature various activities, including cultural performances, fun games, and stalls selling fast food, local delicacies, orange saplings, and much more.
She further informed that the first orange tree in Rusoma is believed to have been planted during 1941-1942. In 1986, Rusoma was adopted and declared as a ‘Horticulture Village,’ and in 2020, the first edition of the Rusoma Orange Festival was launched.
Expressing gratitude for the journey so far, Zale said that the festival aims to promote the welfare of the village, encourage rural entrepreneurship, recognize the hard work of the orange growers, and offer visitors the unique taste of Rusoma oranges.
The inaugural ceremony will be held on January 30 at 10:00 AM, with H. Tovihoto Ayemi, MLA and Advisor, Tribal Affairs and Election Department, as the special guest. The inaugural program will be chaired by Kekhrie Phukha, and the prayer will be offered by Rev. Medoniu Usou. The welcome address will be delivered by Visier Vimera, Convenor of the organizing committee, followed by a special song by Medokhrieu Phukri, an address by the special guest, and the formal inauguration of the stalls. It has been reported that during the festival, the price of oranges has been fixed with an upper limit of ₹140 per kilogram, which will depend on the quality of the produce and the vendor. It was also mentioned that facilities such as local guides will be provided for visitors who wish to visit the orange orchards. Furthermore, it was stated that Risoma village has 570 households, of which approximately 470 are involved in orange cultivation.
