Nagaland: TDGI conducts eco-cultural tourism promotion tour to Sendenyu villages

DIMAPUR: Tseminyu District Green Initiative (TDGI) team led by ADC Tseminyu and Convener of TDGI, Mhomo Tungoe, visited Sendenyu area on May 8, as part of the district’s ongoing initiative to promote sustainable development, green tourism, biodiversity conservation, and community participation across Tseminyu.
A press release by Kenono Foundation informed that during the visit, the team toured several important tourist, biodiversity, and historical sites of the Sendenyu area, including Khinrun (Governor’s View Point), Sendenyu Community Biodiversity Base Camp, Nsonji – Sendenyu Centenary Memorial Park, Parashen, and Sendenyu Biodiversity Center at New Sendenyu.
A stakeholder consultation and community meeting was also conducted at the Sendenyu Biodiversity Center comprising of four village councils of Sendenyu, New Sendenyu, Thongsunyu, and Lotsuphen, along with the Sendenyu Community Ecotourism Board (SCEB) and Kenono Foundation.
The programme was attended by members of TDGI, officials from various departments such as Rural Development, PHED, Forest, community leaders, youth representatives, and local stakeholders.
During the interaction, Convener of TDGI Mhomo Tungoe encouraged the community to actively preserve and promote its rich natural and cultural heritage while embracing sustainable and responsible tourism practices for long-term socio-economic growth.
Resource person Tieso Yhokha, founder of Exotic East Tours & Travels, shared valuable insights on immense potential of Sendenyu landscape for eco and cultural tourism. He also highlighted the growing importance of community-based tourism, conservation-linked livelihoods, hospitality development, and the need to preserve indigenous identity and biodiversity as core strengths of tourism promotion.
The release informed that the programme concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen partnerships among government departments, community institutions, and civil society organizations towards building Sendenyu as a model destination for sustainable tourism and conservation in the state.
