Murder with tobacco crushing rod, then attempt to burn the dead body

Raigarh. On February 1, 2024, police station in-charge Dharamjaygarh Inspector Amit Tiwari had received information about the murder of Jhariram Ekka (age 46 years), resident of village Ravankhol (Dhamnadand) under Dharamjaygarh police station area. Immediately the station in-charge informed the senior officers and reached the spot with his staff. Where the deceased’s wife Paulina Ekka (age 40) told about the incident that her husband Jhariram Ekka was already having a land dispute with Bahal Kujur of the village. On the evening of 31st January, the village’s Bahal Kujur, Om Prakash Yadav and Jhariram were warming themselves by the fire in the courtyard of their house and all four had food and drinks together.

Went inside the room to sleep late at night. After some time, she heard the sound of quarrel between her husband Jhariram, Bahal Kujur and Omprakash in the courtyard and when she went outside, she saw Omprakash Yadav picking up the pidha (small wooden stool) sitting on him and hitting Jhariram on his head due to which Jhariram died. Fell down and as soon as he fell, Kujur recovered. He hit husband Jhari Ram several times on his face and chest with an iron rod used for crushing tobacco (kutni), due to which husband Jhari Ram died on the spot, after which both of them caused injuries to Jhari Ram’s body. To hide the marks, they put burning wood on top of it and ran away from there. On February 01, on the report of Mrs. Paulina Ekka in connection with the incident, accused Bahal Kujur and Omprakash Yadav were booked under relevant sections of murder and destruction of evidence and Dharamjaygarh immediately took both the accused into custody. When the accused were interrogated regarding the incident, both of them narrated the incident by saying that the incident was carried out in a planned manner.

Accused Bahal Kujur told that there was an ongoing land dispute with the deceased Jhari Ram Ekka. Along with Jhari Ram’s wife Paulina Ekka and Omprakash Yadav, all three often used to go to graze bulls. Jhari Ram Aqua suspected both of them of having an affair with his wife. Due to land dispute and suspicion, he along with Om Prakash made a plan to murder Jhari Ram and on the night of 31 January, had dinner with his wife in the courtyard of Jhari Ram’s house.

When Jhari Ram became intoxicated, both of them together killed Jhari Ram with a wooden stick and tobacco pounder rod and to hide the injury, they ran away by placing burning wood on his body. Accused (1) reinstated by Dharamjaigarh Police, Kujur’s father late.
