Khairagarh. Police have solved the mystery of the murder of a youth found on Dongargarh main road in village Kumhi of Khairagarh district. Due to greed for insurance money, the deceased Uttam Verma was killed by his own cousin in a conspiracy. The police have arrested the cousin brother who carried out the murder and two associates.
The matter was disclosed by Additional Superintendent of Police Neha Pandey in a press conference today. The unidentified body found in village Kumhi was identified as Uttam Verma, resident of Amaghat. Police formed a joint team of dog squad, cyber and forensics and started investigation in all directions.
On the basis of suspicion, the police detained the accused Hemant Dhekwar and interrogated him. He told that a four-wheeler was purchased in January 2024 and a harvester in February 2024. For which finance of thirty lakh rupees was made in the name of deceased Uttam Verma. Along with which, Loan Security Insurance (LSB) was also given to deceased Uttam by the finance company. In this way, Hemant had also got an insurance of about 80 lakhs done in the name of deceased Uttam in Maharashtra. Both the cars of Uttam were with his cousin brother Hemant Thekwar, resident of Salekasa. Under the loan protection insurance scheme of the finance company, if the beneficiary dies, the loan amount is waived off.
As part of the conspiracy, Hemant called Uttam to Dongargarh on the pretext of getting him a car, where his associates Suresh Machirke and Premchand Lilhare were also present. First, all four indulged in heavy drinking in Dongargarh, then as part of the plan, they left the deceased’s mobile at a relative’s house in Ataria. Then, as part of a conspiracy, the three accused reached the forest of Gatapar with Uttam, where they strangulated him to death with a pot. To make the murder look like a road accident, the accused threw the body of the deceased on the Kumhi-Dongargarh road. The accused returned to Maharashtra after crushing the body with their vehicle to make it look like an accident. In the entire case, the police have arrested the three accused Hemant Dhekwar, Suresh Machhirke and Premchand Lilhare, along with this, the vehicle used in the incident and the towel used in strangulation have also been recovered and all three have been taken into judicial custody.
