Mumbai: Pre-monsoon rains expose BMC’s poor preparations

Maharashtra : Pre-monsoon rains in Mumbai have exposed the city’s preparedness for the monsoon. From 8 pm to 11 pm on Tuesday, the western suburbs received about 26 mm of rain, eastern suburbs 15 mm and urban areas 12 mm of rain with thundershowers. The brief but heavy rains left many roads waterlogged and brought traffic to a complete standstill.

The monsoon is still some time away, but the threat posed by the pre-monsoon rains on Tuesday has raised serious questions about the BMC’s pre-monsoon activities, especially desilting of drains, completion of road construction work and how Mumbai will face the monsoon.
