Mumbai: Almost a year after the proposal, the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has finally issued a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) tender for the construction of a helipad at Worli Jetty along the Mumbai Coastal Road (South). Designed for medium-class helicopters, the helipad will facilitate medical emergencies, coastal surveillance, and VIP transport, with the appointed firm sharing in the revenue generated from take-offs and landings.
Stated Uses: Emergency and Surveillance
According to the tender, the Worli Jetty helipad will improve connectivity for emergency evacuations, aid in coastal surveillance and national security, assist in disaster relief, facilitate VVIP/VIP movement, and serve other public or government needs.
The project will include a landing and take-off zone, lighting, navigation equipment, supporting infrastructure, safety and fire-fighting systems, and ground handling and fueling facilities. The PPP agreement will be for a period of 15 years, extendable for another 15 years by mutual consent.
