Maharashtra: A shocking incident has come to light in a dispute over the redevelopment of a residential building. On January 29, a 65-year-old man in Bhandup was allegedly attacked and threatened with death by a builder and his two associates. The Bhandup police have registered a case against the builder, Vinod Sharma, and his associates, identified as Narendra Kataria and a man named Abdul.
Complainant’s Details and Property Information
According to the FIR, the complainant, Ramesh Prakash Mohan (65), resides with his family at Swastik Park, Village Road, Bhandup West. Mohan owns flat number 13 in the Badal Cooperative Housing Society, located at Anand Nagar, Village Road, Bhandup West. The society has 16 flats, and Mohan’s flat is ancestral property.
Since the building is more than 45 years old, the society members had unanimously decided to undertake redevelopment. The society’s head chairperson is Usha Sharma, along with secretary Sheela Nair, treasurer Jayesh Anchan, and two committee members, who allegedly submitted a redevelopment proposal for the building to the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in favor of Sharma Construction Company in 2022, without proper authorization.
Police stated that Mohan, as a society member, objected and insisted that the redevelopment be carried out according to government regulations. This led to repeated disputes with Vinod Sharma, the owner of Sharma Construction Company, who allegedly threatened Mohan for interfering with the project.
Court Order and Alleged Coercion Tactics
Mohan subsequently filed a civil suit in the City Civil Court on October 7, 2023, opposing the redevelopment. On December 23, 2025, the court reportedly passed an order restraining any demolition or construction work at the site.
