MP: Farmers submit memorandum to reopen factory in Morena

Madhya Pradesh: The Indian Farmers Union submitted a memorandum to Agriculture Minister Aidal Singh Kansana demanding the reopening of the sugar factory. The minister assured farmers that they would receive an incentive of ₹1 lakh for sugarcane production. He told the delegation that CM Mohan Yadav is fully committed to this. The government has planned to provide ₹1 crore to 100 farmers in the district. However, the minister placed the responsibility on the farmers, saying that sugarcane cultivation should be done first.

The Kailaras Cooperative Sugar Factory was established in 1972 and was considered the lifeline of the district. Production ceased approximately 15 years ago. Six months ago, the state government decided to close the unit and sell the land to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department.

Farmers protested from Kailaras to Bhopal, demanding a halt to this action. Agricultural experts have expressed great potential for sugarcane production in Morena district, which indicates the possibility of setting up more than one sugar factory.
