More Indirect Questions in Plus 2 Mathematics: Students Face Difficulty Answering

Tamil Nadu: Students reported facing difficulties in answering a significant number of indirect questions asked in the Plus 2 Mathematics examination.

General examinations for Plus 2 students under the state syllabus in Tamil Nadu have been underway since March 2. Following the Tamil and English language papers, examinations for other subjects—including Mathematics, Commerce, and Zoology—were conducted on Tuesday. Among these, a large number of indirect questions were featured across all sections of the Mathematics question paper. Students who appeared for the exam stated that they found it challenging to answer these questions. In this regard, Mathematics teachers observed: “The first part of the question paper contained 20 one-mark questions. Of these, four questions—though falling within the prescribed syllabus—were framed in a manner that required deep critical thinking to answer. Similarly, across the 2-mark, 3-mark, and 5-mark sections, a total of six questions were of an indirect nature. Students struggled to comprehend these questions.” On the other hand, the compulsory questions were framed in a way that made answering them relatively easier.

Compared to the previous year, the Mathematics question paper likely proved to be difficult for the students. However, securing pass marks should not pose a problem, as three questions each in the 2-mark and 5-mark sections were relatively easy. Furthermore, they noted that the number of students scoring full marks is expected to be lower.

Meanwhile, a total of 9,374 students remained absent from the examinations conducted on Tuesday for Plus 2 students across various subjects, including Mathematics, Zoology, Commerce, Microbiology, and Food Service Management; this figure comprises 7,216 school students and 2,158 private candidates. 13 Arrested: A total of 13 individuals have been arrested on charges of involvement in alleged irregularities during the examinations; this includes 9 individuals from Dharmapuri district, 2 from Krishnagiri, and one each from Ramanathapuram and Tiruppur. Subsequently, examinations for Plus 2 students in other subjects—including Biology, History, Botany, and Business Mathematics—will be conducted on March 23.
