Mohali: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said here today that an opportunity has been given to all eligible voters to get their names included in the voter list, who could not get their names included in the voter list earlier or who have become eligible to get their names included later. The State Election Commission is in the process of making suitable arrangements for conducting elections to the Gram Panchayats in the State. In this regard, the final publication of voter lists with the eligibility date of January 1, 2023 was done in January 2024. The said voter list was duly updated up to December 29, 2023 after receiving claims and objections from the public.
Now the Commission has issued directions to all Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers to instruct all Electoral Registration Officers (SDMs) to take steps to update the voter lists to be used in the Panchayat elections, accept applications in Form I, II and III for addition, deletion and correction of votes respectively on every working day and conduct special campaigns for this on August 20, 21 and 22. He said the forms are available at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (SDM), or they can be downloaded from the commission’s website (sec.punjab.gov.in).
