Tamil Nadu : Modern waiting rooms with basic amenities will be set up for construction workers in Chennai Corporation areas. Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran on Thursday released sample photographs for this.
Lakhs of workers are engaged in 54 types of construction works under the Construction Workers Welfare Board across Tamil Nadu. They have to wait for long hours on the roadsides regardless of sun or rain for vehicles carrying them to work every day.
It is worth noting that about 30 per cent of these are women. The Tamil Nadu government is planning to set up waiting rooms with basic amenities for the convenience of these workers.
Based on this, in the first phase, three places will be selected in the Chennai Corporation where construction workers congregate and waiting rooms will be set up there. Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran on Thursday released sample photographs of those rooms.
