Sundergarh: A group of miscreants reportedly tied-up the members of a family and threatened them at gunpoint before looting gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 corore in Sundergarh district on Monday.
Some unidentified persons allegedly barged into the house of one Nikhil Agrawal at Barpali village under Hemgir Police station limits of the district and tied-up each and every family member together and locked them inside a room, said sources.
While some of the miscreants threatened the family members at gun and sword points, some others collected 1.5kg of gold, 1kg of silver ornaments and some cash and fled the spot, add the sources.
As alleged by Agrawal, the cost of the looted ornaments including the cash would be around Rs 1.5 corore. Without any delay, he intimated the Hemgir Police about the loot and sought an investigation into the matter.
A team of cops from the Hemgir Police station along with a scientific team reached the spot and initiated a probe. While the scientific team is collecting evidences and samples from the house, the cops are questioning the family members to get some lead in the case.
Meanwhile, shocked by the loot, the locals demanded the identification, arrest of the looters and stringent action against them at the earlier possible time.
