ROING: Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region project associate Ch. Sanatan Singha visited the RIWATCH Centre for Mother Languages (RCML) in Lower Dibang Valley district on Wednesday.
During the visit, Singha reviewed RCML’s ongoing project, “Promotion of Literary Development of Mother Languages of Arunachal Pradesh,” which is supported by the North Eastern Council through the nodal agency, the Department of Indigenous Affairs.
He commended RCML for its significant contributions to documenting and promoting the state’s linguistic heritage. Singha acknowledged the Centre’s diverse activities, including multilingual publications and language promotion programmes conducted among native speakers, school students, and teachers.
Singha assured that he would urge the ministry to continue supporting RCML’s initiatives in the interest of promoting, preserving, and developing the region’s languages.
While appreciating the Research Institute of World’s Ancient Traditions Cultures and Heritage (RIWATCH) museum, Singha noted that it effectively showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditional artifacts of the indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh and Northeast India.
Executive director of RIWATCH, Vijay Swami, underscored that language preservation and documentation are central to safeguarding cultural identity and reaffirmed RCML’s commitment to documenting and preserving the languages of Arunachal Pradesh.
RCML centre head, Dr. Mechek Sampar Awan, presented a comprehensive overview of the Centre’s activities since its establishment, highlighting key achievements in language documentation and the development of linguistic resources.
