Minister Sivasankar inaugurated 12 natural gas buses in Rameswaram

Tamil Nadu: Transport Minister S.S. Sivasan inaugurated the service of 12 natural gas-powered Widel buses in Rameswaram on Wednesday.

At an event presided over by Ramanathapuram District Magistrate Simranjit Singh Kallon, Minister S.S. Sivasan inaugurated the new buses. He boarded the bus and traveled a short distance.

Later, he told reporters:

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced that 750 natural gas-powered buses would be introduced across Tamil Nadu to protect the environment. In the first phase, 12 buses have been put into operation in Rameswaram. This arrangement aims to ensure transportation is conducted in a manner that does not harm the environment.

Currently, buses in Tamil Nadu are operated by private entities. In the future, the government will arrange for buses to operate throughout Tamil Nadu. He stated that natural gas buses will be operated throughout Tamil Nadu and will protect the environment. The 12 buses launched in Rameswaram will operate in the Rameswaram, Koil, Dhanushkodi, Thangachidam, Pamban, Natarajapuram, Pudhurod, Cherakottai, Sundaramudayan, and Uchipuli areas. Officials said diesel buses operating in that area will be relocated.

Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha member K. Navasakani, Ramanathapuram Assembly member Katharapadasha Muthuramalingam, Transport Corporation Managing Director Dasarathan, General Managers Sivasankaravelan, Ravi Kumar, Rameswaram Nagar Mandram Chairman Nassar Khan, Vice Chairman Thetchinamurthy, and local body representatives attended the event.
