Manipur: The Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has urged the concerned authority to conduct an inquiry at the earliest and find out the real cause of the mysterious death of the mother and daughter. The commission also said that if the incident is found to be murder and not suicide, a case should be registered against the culprits. A team of MCPCR, led by its Chairperson Kesam Pradeepkumar and member of MCPCR Anita Chabungbam visited the spot at Haorebi in Imphal West district and collected reports from the locals about the mysterious death of a mother (Basanti Devi) and her 4-year-old daughter.
Both the bodies were found lying on the bed inside the house of the deceased woman on the morning of September 23, 2024. MCPCR expressed extreme anguish as the state had recently witnessed another unnatural death when a young pregnant mother and her child died after heavy tear gas firing in the area to disperse protesters (Kakwa incident). Soon after, this incident took place in Haoribi area, leaving everyone shocked. The MCPCR and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) organised a state level awareness workshop on Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act, 1996 and its Amendment Rules 2017 at the Manipur Press Club on Thursday.
