MC asked officials to keep an eye on the functioning of STP

Punjab: As sewer blockage is a major issue in the West constituency due to inadequate functioning of Khaparkhedi Sewerage Treatment Plant, the Municipal Corporation is monitoring the situation. Residents of the Western Assembly constituency have held several demonstrations in the past months demanding a solution to the problem of sewer choking. However, as no infrastructural upgrades have been implemented to address the problem, the MC Commissioner directed the staff to keep regular checks at the sewerage treatment plants at Kahaparkhedi, Gaunsabad and the intermediate pumping stations at Batala Road and Mohkampura.

MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh said the municipal corporation is continuously monitoring the functioning of Khaparkhedi and Gaunsabad sewerage treatment plants and intermediate pumping stations at Batala Road and Mohkampura to check proper flow of sewerage.
He said that the MC has strengthened its machinery and manpower for the upcoming rainy season. He has deployed his officers, including Superintending Engineer Sandeep Singh and Executive SP Singh, to constantly keep a watch on all the sewerage treatment plants in the city. If the sewerage system of the city works properly then rain and sewer water will not overflow and people will not face problems during the rainy season.
He said that he himself has visited these sewerage treatment plants several times and has instructed the officials of the company operating these STPs to run these plants without any interruption. He has also deputed his officers to conduct daily checks to check the proper functioning of the disposal plants on the bypass roads.
The MC Commissioner said that several public complaints regarding sewerage problems in various parts of the city came to his notice. Even before this, he had inspected all the STPs in Gaunsabad, Khaparkhedi and had instructed the company operating these STPs to operate all the motors in the treatment plant properly.
The MC Commissioner said that the MC is spending crores of rupees on super sucker machines to clean the sewerage lines in the city, but today he himself inspected the intermediate pumping stations on Batala Road and Mohkampura and several manholes on the main roads to find out the sewerage lines there. Flow can be checked. , The Commissioner said that if all the STPs and pumping stations run properly then there will be no problem of sewerage in any part of the city.
