Mayurbhanj: Accused of trying to sell a seven-month-old baby for ₹30,000

Odisha: A shocking case has emerged from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, where a father was accused of trying to sell his seven-month-old child for ₹30,000. However, the child was rescued due to the alertness and timely intervention of local residents. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the area.

The accused has been identified as Ratan Kisku, a resident of Gholmuhan village under the Morada police line. According to locals, he was often intoxicated and assaulted his family. Several complaints had been lodged against his wife and younger son.

According to sources, the local administration and the Child Development Department team had previously intervened regarding the accused’s behavior in Mayurbhanj district. The CDPO staff, supervisors, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers jointly counseled him to improve the family’s situation.

On the day of the incident, Ratan Kisku reportedly arrived at Chandbila village, in the Baripada Sadar Police Lines area, with his seven-month-old son. He gave his name as Arjun Kisku to conceal his identity, which aroused local suspicion. His actions and conversation led the villagers to suspect something was amiss.

The villagers then stopped him and began questioning him. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to selling his child for ₹30,000. This caused panic in the village, and the villagers immediately overpowered him.

However, after some time, while the women were holding him down, he took advantage of the situation and managed to escape. Following the incident, locals immediately informed the police, and given the seriousness of the matter, an investigation has been launched.

The police are now searching for the accused and investigating whether any other individuals or gangs are involved. The child has been taken to a safe place and is being cared for.

This incident has raised serious questions about child safety and social conditions in the area. The local administration has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
