Maruti to cross 20 lakh annual production mark in a year for the first time in 2024

Delhi Delhi. Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday said it has crossed the 20 lakh production mark in a calendar year for the first time in 2024.The company has also become the first to reach this milestone at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global automobile manufacturing facilities, the auto major said in a statement.It said the Ertiga was the 20 lakhth vehicle to roll off the production line at the company’s manufacturing facility in Manesar.Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said that of the 20 lakh vehicles, about 60 per cent were manufactured in Haryana and 40 per cent in Gujarat.

It said the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR and Brezza were the top five vehicles manufactured in 2024.MSI Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said, “This achievement reflects our commitment to our supplier and dealer partners as well as to drive economic growth, support nation building and make India’s automobile industry self-reliant and globally competitive.” MSI operates three manufacturing facilities: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). These facilities have a combined annual production capacity of 23.5 lakh units.

In anticipation of the growing demand for automobiles in India and around the world, the company plans to increase its annual production capacity to 40 lakh units. The auto major is setting up a new manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda in Haryana, with the first plant with an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units expected to be operational next year. Once fully operational, the facility will have a capacity of 10 lakh units per annum. Additionally, the company plans to set up another greenfield facility with an annual capacity of 10 lakh units and is in the process of identifying a suitable location for this new facility.
