Manipur: Drivers repaired 20 km of road with community cooperation

Manipur: Under community effort and solidarity, Moirang Purel Area Local Truck Drivers Union (MPALTDU) with the help of local residents, voluntarily repaired the 20 km long road between Napet Palli under Lamlai AC and Thoubal Dam under Andro AC. The road had deteriorated due to heavy load of continuous transportation by trucks carrying essential materials like stone and sand. With the support of local people, Lamlai MLA Ibomcha and Andro MLA Shyamkumar and the union members used their full manpower and machinery including 250 trucks, excavation machines to repair the road with stone gravel.

Using every possible machinery including 250 trucks, along with heavy machines like excavation machines, the union members laid stone gravel on the damaged stretches. Speaking to the media, the association’s secretary Deval Takhlambman said the road is of great importance to the local trucking industry, especially as it is a major route for the transportation of stone and sand, which is needed for local construction activities. “For the past 10 years, we have been repairing this road twice a year to ensure uninterrupted passage for our trucks,” he said, expressing gratitude for the unwavering community support that has made these efforts possible over the years.
