Mandi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reopened the Chandigarh-Manali national highway for traffic last night. The highway was blocked following a landslide at 7 mile in Mandi district at around 1 am, disrupting traffic between Mandi and Pandoh. The highway remained blocked for nearly two hours due to the massive amount of debris that came down following the landslide.
NHAI teams equipped with heavy machinery and emergency response protocols swiftly swung into action to clear the obstructions and ensure safety of the highway for commuters. Restoration teams worked round the clock to clear the debris from the highway. Traffic was diverted to alternate routes, though NHAI’s priority was to reopen the highway as soon as possible. Mandi Additional SP Sagar Chandra said that apart from 7 mile, traffic was also disrupted at Pulgharat due to a landslide on the highway. Some hanging stones were removed to avoid any untoward incident in the rainy season.
