Man arrested for ‘possessing banned meat’ in Jharkhand

Authorities in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district Thursday said they have arrested a man after a video on social media showed local residents allegedly recovering “banned meat” from his possession. In the video, the man, who identifies himself as Sahabuddin, is seen with his hands tied to a tree, speaking about his bull “who was ill”.

“I had slept and in the morning I found that my father was not at home….The bull was slaughtered,” the man is heard saying.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Singh said the incident took place in Bhurkunda Bari township of Kaliasol block under Nirsa police station of Dhanbad district. “The details in the video being shared are not factual, is exaggerated and may disturb the communal harmony of the place,” the statement said.

“The district administration was informed about the presence of ‘banned meat’. Till the time the police and administration could reach the spot, locals (of Bhurkunda Bari) surrounded and stopped the youth whose video is coming on social media,” the statement added.
