Man arrested for animal cruelty; illegal transportation of animals in a Scorpio vehicle uncovered.

Raigarh. Jute Mill Police has achieved a significant success by arresting an absconding accused in a serious case of animal cruelty and illegal transportation and sending him on judicial remand. Police have arrested Dilip Bodra, 34, son of Pandu Bodra, a resident of Sanroksi village, Keblang police station, Sundargarh district (Odisha), who had been absconding for the past one month.

According to information, on the night of November 1, 2025, Jute Mill Police intercepted a Scorpio vehicle with registration number OR 14 Q 5327 parked on the roadside near Kodatarai Chowk in a suspicious condition. The driver was found absconding from the scene. Police station in-charge Jute Mill Inspector Prashant Rao had previously received information that cattle were being cruelly transported to a slaughterhouse in Odisha in a Scorpio vehicle with an Odisha passport.

A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the driver of a Scorpio vehicle was brutally transporting five cattle tied together for illegal transportation to a slaughterhouse. The driver parked the vehicle on the roadside and fled. Police took legal action and seized the two live cattle found in the vehicle (total estimated value of approximately ₹350,000) under a seizure notice. The live cattle were handed over to the village Kotwar, while post-mortems were conducted on the three dead cattle.

During the investigation, it was also revealed that the accused had removed all the rear seats of the Scorpio vehicle except the driver’s seat and the front seat. He had installed black glass in the vehicle and was illegally transporting the cattle by brutally tying them together. In response to this incident, a case was registered at Jute Mill Police Station, Crime No. 389/2025, under Sections 4, 6, and 10 of the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Animal Protection Act, 2004, and Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

During the investigation, information regarding the registered owner of the seized vehicle was obtained from the RTO office, and the vehicle was found to be registered in Sundargarh district, Odisha. After a sustained investigation, the police detained the accused last night. The accused admitted in his memorandum statement that he was the owner of the Scorpio vehicle and that on the evening of October 31, 2025, he was transporting five cattle, brutally tied up, to a slaughterhouse in Rourkela, Odisha. When the vehicle broke down at around 2 a.m. on November 1, 2025, he abandoned the vehicle near Kodatarai village and fled.

The accused’s actions were found to be serious and punishable, and he was duly arrested and remanded to judicial custody by the Jute Mill Police on December 23, 2025. This action by the Jute Mill Police sends a strong message against those involved in animal cruelty and illegal animal transportation.
