Mamta-Nitish meeting today

Kolkata (IANS) | The meeting between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has now been fixed for Monday. Earlier, sources in the state secretariat had said that the meeting would be held at Kalighat, Banerjee’s residence in south Kolkata, on Tuesday. We were told that Nitish Kumar would be coming to Kolkata for a few hours on Monday and his meeting would be held at the state secretariat Nabanna instead of the chief minister’s residence, a state government official said.

It is learned that after his brief visit to Kolkata, Nitish Kumar will leave for Lucknow, where he is to meet Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

Significantly, both Mamata Banerjee and Nitish Kumar have been active in uniting the opposition against the BJP for the 2024 elections.

Last month, Akhilesh Yadav met Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat. During this both the leaders agreed to maintain distance with Congress and focus on unity of regional forces against BJP in 2024.

On the other hand, in an attempt to unite the opposition, the Chief Minister of Bihar also met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Soon after meeting Akhilesh, Mamata Banerjee went to Odisha and held a meeting with her counterpart Naveen Patnaik.

After this Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy had met Mamta Banerjee.

Last week, Banerjee asked her Tamil Nadu counterpart M.K. Discussed with Stalin the unity of the opposition against the role of governors in the state.
