The Global NCAP recently conducted a latest round of crash tests for various four wheels under its Safer Cars for India programme. Apart from the Bolero Neo, Global NCAP has also tested the Honda Amaze and the Kia Carens MPV in this round of assessments.
In the Global NCAP test, the recently launched Mahindra Bolero Neo compact SUV received a 1-star rating for adult safety and child protection. The SUV that was tested was only equipped with two airbags as standard.
Mahindra Bolero Neo: GNCAP crash test rating
According to the test results released by Global NCAP, the Bolero Neo was tested under the latest protocols. It received 20.26 points out of a maximum of 34 in the adult safety rating and 12.71 points out of a maximum of 49 points for child protection. The report stated that the SUV has an unstable structure and footwell area. The low result is caused because of various reason and one of them is the weak chest protection and poor feet protection for the driver. Moreover, theBolero Neo lacks seat belt reminders for all passengers as well as curtain airbags.
So, the lack of three-point seat belts for all passengers, lack of a passenger airbag switch, and only one child restraint system (CRS) resulted in the low scores in this area, even though the child protection showed “acceptable dynamic performance”.
Meanwhile, Mahindra has secured good ratings for its products like the Scorpio N, the XUV700 and the XUV300 SUV. However, the Bolero’s low rating is due to the old platform as it is mostly a heavily updated TUV300 SUV, which is in the market since 2016. Moreover, the company might replace within two years by a new platform that’s already under development at Mahindra.
Meanwhile, the Honda Amaze and the Kia Carens MPV are among the final tests in the Safer Cars for India campaign as Bharat NCAP becomes fully activated.
