In order to conduct free and fair elections, the Election Commission of India has announced the dates of “Lok Sabha General Election-2024” to be held in Chhattisgarh along with the entire country. With this, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the district. Along with this, orders have been issued to deposit the licensed weapons in the police station. Removal of all hoardings, posters, banners etc. put up with public money has started from all public places/buildings in the district. Returning officers of all four assembly constituencies of the district have been nominated. Collector Prabhat Malik will be the returning officer. A ban has been imposed on all officers/employees on leave and leaving the headquarters. The above information was given by Collector and District Election Officer Prabhat Malik in a press conference in the Collectorate’s meeting room here today. Additional Collector Ravi Sahu, Deputy District Election Officer Nirbhay Sahu, representatives of print and electronic media were present in the press conference.
Collector Malik said that with the announcement of the Lok Sabha election programme, the model code of conduct has been made effective in the entire area of the district. According to the Lok Sabha General Election 2024 programme, the date of second phase of voting in the four assemblies of Mahasamund district has been fixed on 26 April 2024 (Friday). According to the Lok Sabha general election schedule issued by the Election Commission of India, the notification will be published on 28 March 2024. The last date for submission of nomination papers is 04 April 2024. Similarly, the date of scrutiny of nomination papers has been fixed as 05 April 2024 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations of candidates has been fixed as 08 April 2024 and the date of voting has been fixed as 26 April 2024. Similarly, the date of counting of votes has been fixed as June 4, 2024. The election process will be completed on 6 June 2024.
District Election Officer Malik said that under the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the number of polling stations in total 8 assembly constituencies under Lok Sabha Parliamentary Constituency 09 Mahasamund is 2146. Under which there are 8,65,125 male voters, 8,94,023 female voters and 33 third gender voters. In this way, a total of 17,59,181 voters are registered in the district. Out of these, 47,511 voters are youth voters aged 18 to 19 years. 17,338 disabled voters, 16,130 senior voters above 80 years of age and 191 service voters above 100 years are registered.
The Collector said that the work of receiving nominations will be done at the Collector and District Election Office, Mahasamund. There will be Assistant Returning Officers for Assembly Constituencies 39-Saraipali, 40-Basna, 41-Khallari and 42 Mahasamund. He said that from the day of announcement of elections till the declaration of results, campaigning will be stopped from 10 pm to 6 am. 48 hours before the end of voting, people other than candidates and registered voters of the assembly constituency will have to leave the assembly constituency.
