Maharashtra: Water tanker hits bike, 2 injured

Maharashtra: A woman and a child were injured when a water tanker hit them in Pune, Maharashtra on Saturday morning. The tanker was being driven by a 15-year-old teenager, police said. The accident occurred on NIBM Road around 6.30 am, an official said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ganesh Ingle said the water tanker hit a two-wheeler in which a woman was riding. After this, the tanker also hit a child, who was going to play with some of his friends. The injured woman has been identified as Geeta Santosh Doome (41). “The water tanker was being driven by a 15-year-old teenager,” Ingle said. He said the injured were admitted to a local hospital and their condition is said to be out of danger.

An official from the Wanawadi police station said that the minor driver has been detained, while his father Shabbir Pathan and tanker owner Mahendra Borate have been arrested under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act and Child Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. Last month, Pune was in the centre of national discussion when a Porsche car hit a two-wheeler in Kalyani Nagar area on May 19. The car was allegedly driven by a 17-year-old minor under the influence of alcohol. Two IT professionals were killed in that accident.
