Mumbai: All eyes are on Maharashtra State Assembly Speaker and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s decision regarding the disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs on January 10. This date holds significant importance in the political scenario of Maharashtra and India.
Recently, Maharashtra State Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar completed the hearing on the disqualification petitions of these 16 Shiv Sena MLAs. During the proceedings, Narvekar also considered counter petitions filed by those opposing the disqualification of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena MLAs.
The Supreme Court had initially set December 31 as the deadline to issue the order, but Speaker Narvekar had requested for an extension till January 10 to give the final decision on the disqualification of the MLAs.
Sources have indicated that the Maharashtra State Assembly Speaker has prepared the draft of the order, which has been sent to experts in Delhi for legal scrutiny. This order will eventually be presented to the Supreme Court and subjected to further scrutiny.
Apart from this, on January 7, Rahul Narvekar held an important meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The meeting is being seen as a significant development that could determine the fate of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his government or potentially provide relief to him.
The BJP’s top leadership will play a key role in shaping the resulting decision, as it may also have an impact on the NCP factions led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Therefore, this order is expected to have a long-term impact not only in the state but also on the political landscape of India.
