Ludhiana: A woman, posing as a police inspector and wearing a police uniform, was arrested late Tuesday night in Transport Nagar. The suspect was extorting money from people under the guise of checking documents, claiming to be a police officer. When truck drivers became suspicious and asked her to show her police ID card, she failed to do so, prompting them to call the PCR. The suspect has been identified as Ramandeep Kaur, a resident of Gurdaspur. Police have registered a case and begun further investigation. Sources said the woman had been extorting money for several days. She would arrive under the pretext of checking, ask for documents, and then find fault and extort money. Truck drivers were upset by this. They assumed she was a police inspector, so they couldn’t resist. However, some of them became suspicious because she wasn’t accompanied by a gunman or staff. DCP Jaskiranjit Teja said police have launched an investigation to determine where she obtained the uniform and whether she is linked to an organized gang. He said mobile call records and past criminal history are also being examined to determine whether she was part of a larger network targeting truck drivers at night.
