Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Citizens Council filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking an injunction against any encroachment or illegal construction on National Highway 95A, which runs from Barewal village to Ayali village. Field staff from the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) conducted a detailed survey of illegal constructions along the connecting road from Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana (NH-95A) to Ladhowal (NH-44), which runs along both banks of the canal near South City. During the survey, 47 unauthorized commercial establishments were identified along the highway, including properties owned by Numi, Sartaj Sweets, Baba Chicken, Bake Fresh, Greenhouse, Kothari Marbles, Basera Properties, Sukhmani Properties, Rajneesh Syal, Regal Properties, Jugnu, and RK Wines. GLADA officials stated: “Public are informed that a total of 47 unauthorized commercial spaces have been identified on the connecting road from Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana (NH-95A) to Ladhowal (NH-44), passing along both banks of the canal near South City. Several applications for unauthorized commercial spaces were received for issuance of regularization certificates.
After following the legal process, all such applications have been rejected.” A detailed status report has already been filed in the High Court regarding this. According to a press release issued by GLADA, all violators carrying out illegal constructions on the road from Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana (NH-95A) to Ladhowal (NH-44), passing along both banks of the canal near South City, are requested to immediately remove/demolish the illegal constructions at their own expense. Failing this, the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), in fulfilling its legal obligations under the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 1995, will seal/demolish the construction without further notice, according to an affidavit filed in the High Court, and the entire cost of sealing/demolition will be recovered from the violators as per the law. A GLADA official said that it would be better if the violators stop their activities in the illegal structures, otherwise the authorities will take whatever action is necessary.
