Ludhiana: The rape victim accompanied by Nihangs reached the office of Commissioner of Police (CP) demanding the arrest of the suspects named in the case. She said that if the police do not arrest him, she will reach the DGP office on Monday. On August 13, Ludhiana police had registered a case against a social activist Chetan Baweja. The complainant, a local resident, alleged that despite registering a case, the police have failed to arrest the suspect. She suspects that the police are deliberately delaying his arrest due to the man’s political influence. If he is not arrested by Monday, she will approach DGP Punjab and submit a complaint to him demanding the arrest of the suspect.
The woman had told the police in her complaint that she was married in 2019 but due to a dispute with her husband, she approached social activist Chetan Baweja to settle the matter. She got divorced from her husband in 2020. Later, Baveja called her to his office on Chandigarh Road, where he had physical relations with her after offering her a cold drink laced with some intoxicating drugs. Initially, Baveja had claimed that he was unmarried and on the pretext of marrying her, he continued to have physical relations with her. When the victim became pregnant and asked Baveja to marry her, he told her that he was already married and rejected the marriage proposal. A complaint was also filed against the victim by her ex-husband, accusing her of blackmailing and hiding the truth of her pregnancy at the time of marriage. However, he termed the allegations as false.
