Ludhiana: Seven-year-old Pinky and her five-year-old brother, Gopal, were killed when a speeding truck overturned on their temporary home along the Sidhwan-Jagraon Road on Wednesday morning. The children’s father was also injured in the incident. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Civil Hospital mortuary here. Police have seized the truck, while its driver fled the scene before the police team arrived. Gopi Ram of Malik village said that his son had been living with his family in a slum along the Sidhwan-Jagraon Road for a long time.
Around 3 a.m., a truck carrying gravel overturned on the slum, pinning Pinky and Gopal under it. They died due to the lack of timely assistance and a rescue operation, as the driver fled the scene after the accident. While police are yet to determine the cause of this tragic incident, initial investigations suggest that speeding in dense fog was the cause. Possibly due to poor visibility, the truck may have veered off the road and overturned onto the slum. One of the truck’s tires burst in the accident. Police officers, led by SHO City Surjeet Singh, have seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.
