Ludhiana: FIR registered against three for giving inflammatory speech

Ludhiana: Five days after Commissioner of Police (CP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal reiterated that hurting religious sentiments will no longer be tolerated and any comment or speech against any religion or community will invite penal action, the Ludhiana police on Saturday registered three such cases against two Hindu activists and one Sikh activist. Confirming the developments to The Tribune here today, Chahal said: “There will be zero tolerance against hate speech. Any person, irrespective of his religion or community, will face action as per law if he indulges in such offence. Strict instructions have already been issued to SHOs of all police stations in this regard.”

He said three such FIRs have been registered today in the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate under relevant sections against the suspects and further investigation has been started. According to information, the first FIR was registered at the Cyber ​​Police Station under various sections of the BNS. It was registered on the statement of constable Loverpreet Singh in connection with uploading of objectionable content against Hindu community from the Facebook account of Gavin Gill. Another FIR was lodged at Tibba police station against Sumit Josuja Arora, a resident of Sat Kartar Nagar, Ludhiana, who had posted a hate religious post on Facebook. A third FIR was also registered at Tibba police station against Neeraj, a resident near Gurudwara, Tibba, who had posted a hate religious post on Facebook.

Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Chahal said that hate speech sometimes leads to serious consequences, scuffles and communal disharmony among residents, hence people uploading any such post on social media accounts can be blocked. Apart from this, legal action will also be taken against them as per the Indian Justice Code (BNS). The cyber cell of Ludhiana police is already monitoring such social media accounts and if needed, the police will write to the concerned authorities to deactivate such accounts. ‘Tiger is alive’ posters cause ruckus After Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar alias Gora was discharged from DMCH on Saturday, ‘Tiger is alive’ posters were pasted in the city, creating a ruckus. Someone put up the posters in the city claiming that the Hindu leader has no fear and is still alive. Sources said that after the police came to know about the matter, they tore down the posters and warned Shiv Sena workers not to put up such posters, which could incite violence.
