Odisha: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday reported that a low pressure area (LPA) has developed over the southwest Bay of Bengal due to the influence of an upper atmospheric cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka. This system is active in the sea area near the northern Sri Lankan coast.
According to the Meteorological Department, this low pressure system formed at 5:30 am on May 11th. The associated cyclonic circulation extends to an altitude of approximately 5.8 kilometers above sea level, indicating it as an organized weather system.
The IMD has stated that this system is likely to strengthen and develop more clearly over the next 48 hours. According to weather experts, when such a system becomes active over the sea area, it can cause further weather changes, although its direction and intensity are currently being continuously monitored.
Despite the formation of this low pressure area, no immediate threat has been declared for Odisha. The Meteorological Department has clarified that no warnings or specific forecasts have yet been issued regarding any major impact of this system on the state.
Weather experts say that under current conditions, this system is unlikely to have a direct impact on the weather in Odisha. Therefore, residents need not worry at this time. However, the Meteorological Department is continuously monitoring ocean activity and will issue necessary information in case of any changes.
According to experts, such low-pressure systems frequently form in the Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas, some of which subsequently affect the weather, while others weaken and dissipate. More precise information regarding the intensity and direction of the current system may emerge in the coming days.
The IMD has advised the public and fishermen to pay close attention to weather updates and follow any official information regarding activities in the ocean.
Currently, the situation is reported to be normal, and the Meteorological Department is continuously monitoring the situation to provide timely information on any potential changes.
