Lok Sabha: Amritpal Singh being brought to Delhi to take oath in Lok Sabha Jailed radical preacher Amritpal Singh, who is being brought to Delhi on parole to take oath as Lok Sabha member, will be allowed to join his family but will not be allowed to leave the “territorial jurisdiction” of New Delhi. During his stay in the national capital, neither Singh nor his relatives or relatives are allowed to make statements to any media, as per the conditions stipulated in the parole order issued by the district magistrate of Amritsar in Punjab, where the man was arrested on April 23 last year. The Khalistani supporter, who won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat in Punjab in the recent parliamentary elections while being in jail in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, is scheduled to take oath on Friday. Singh, 31, will be brought to Delhi from Assam to take oath and his four-day parole period will begin from July 5, sources said on Wednesday. The bail order, which mentions 10 conditions, states that the temporary release period will include the time required for travel from Dibrugarh Central Jail to New Delhi and back. “During the period of temporary release you shall not enter the territorial jurisdiction of any place other than New Delhi,” it said. “Amritpal Singh or any member of his family shall not be permitted to film any statement of Amritpal and/or disseminate such statement in any electronic format,” the order said.

“He shall refrain from taking any action or making any statement prejudicial to national security,” it said. “As per Section 2(c) of the Punjab Custody (Status of Detention) Order, 1981, members of Amritpal’s family may join him during his stay in New Delhi,” the statement said. On the deployment of security personnel for Singh, the order said he will be accompanied by as many police officers as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar (Rural) deems fit. These personnel will accompany him from the date and time of his temporary release from jail till his return to jail to continue his period of detention, it said. Meanwhile, when Singh is present in the Parliament premises, he will be accompanied by “as many police officers or other security personnel as may be permitted by the Lok Sabha Secretary General,” the order said. It added that during the period when Singh is not required in the Parliament premises, after taking into account various security considerations, he will be lodged at such place in New Delhi as the SSP, Amritsar (Rural) deems fit”. On Wednesday, Amritsar District Magistrate Gamshyam Thori told PTI, “Amritpal Singh has been granted bail for a period of four days or less from July 5 with certain conditions which have been informed to the Dibrugarh jail superintendent.” Singh, who heads the group “Waris Punjab De” named after slain Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was jailed along with nine of his associates under the National Security Act. He was arrested at Rode village in Moga on February 23 after he and his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station, broke barricades, brandished swords and guns and clashed with police personnel in an attempt to free one of his aides from custody.
