Vijayawada: The success story of Andhra Pradesh, which was ranked highly by the World Bank for initiating energy efficiency measures in 2016-17, was highlighted once again during a recent meeting. The meeting was attended by A Chandrasekhar Reddy, media advisor, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for the southern state, Dr R Hari Kumar, Director and Johnson Daniel, Head of DSM at Energy Management Centre (EMC), State Designated Agency (SDA) of Kerala. The meeting was organised to promote Mission LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment), where the achievements of Andhra Pradesh in energy efficiency were highlighted and the need to emulate its model for effective implementation of flagship programmes was stressed. Chandrasekhar mentioned that this success was also highlighted in three major events of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held in Visakhapatnam. The BEE emphasised the importance of large-scale public participation in enhancing energy efficiency and reiterated that all the SDAs in southern states are set to achieve their targets with the support of BEE. The discussion also emphasised the need to link lifestyle with available resources, advocating decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation. To promote a more sustainable lifestyle, people are encouraged to use LED lights, prefer public transport, switch off vehicle engines at red lights and railway crossings, use bicycles for short trips, choose CNG or electric vehicles.
