LG inaugurates 2nd Aerosol Winter School 2024 at CUJ

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the second Aerosol Winter School – ‘Manthan 2024’ at the Central University of Jammu.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor appreciated the joint effort of Central University of Jammu, Indus Central University Ladakh and Indian National Youth Science Academy in providing practical training on remote sensing tools along with necessary equipment and analytical techniques for air quality studies. . To meet the objectives of the National Clean Air Programme.


He stressed on collaborative and inter-sectoral coordination to tackle air pollution, which has become a serious health concern for people.


“Air sustains life. Now the time has come that we maintain the availability of clean air. The Lieutenant Governor said, nature is reminding us to learn appropriate lessons from the missteps of the past and work towards a clean and green planet.


The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the resolve of the UT administration under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tackle the challenges of air pollution.
They called for effective monitoring networks and inclusive public participation and capacity building measures to ensure lasting solutions.
“Societies and nations have prospered due to balanced and sustainable development. Many important achievements of industry, science and technology have also derived their power from nature. Today, the time has come to protect and preserve nature,” he further said.
He directed the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee and other key stakeholders to assess and review the progress recorded under the National Clean Air Programme.
The Lieutenant Governor announced allocation of Rs 1.5 crore by the Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment to strengthen the Himalayan Aerosol Research Instrumentation Center of the Central University of Jammu.
He also assured the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism of necessary support by the UT Administration for expanding research related activities in Jammu and Kashmir.


On this occasion, a Service Level Agreement was signed between District Skill Committee Samba and School of Business Studies, Central University of Jammu for capacity building and skill courses in Samba district under Sankalp Scheme.


Professor Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu; Dheeraj Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary Forest, Professor AP Dimri, Director Indian Institute of Geomagnetism; Professor Sachin S Gunthe, IIT Madras; Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Samba, experts, heads of departments, faculty members and students were present.
