Umerkote: There has been a leopard attack in Umerkote block of Nabrangpur district in Odisha said reports on Wednesday. In the attack, a three-year-old child has been killed.
It has been alleged that the leopard attacked the three year old whirl playing. The incident took place in Odisha-Chattisgarh border in Birguri jungle. The child had gone missing on Sunday. Later the locals spotted the dismembered body of the child in the forest.
It is worth mentioning that the leopard is yet to be spotted. The pugmarks of the mammal was found in the jungle near the body. Detailed reports awaited.
On May 17, a leopard was spotted roaming in Baripada town in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district Following the incident, a panic had been created in the town among the locals. The forest department allegedly tranquilized the big cat before capturing it, said reports.
According to sources, the big cat was see roaming in Bhanjapur area of the town. On receiving information, forest department official reached the spot and initiated a search operation.
As the town is near the Similipal National Park, wild animals are often seen roaming near and inside the town. Earlier, a leopard was spotted in Jagannathpur village on the side of Lulung Road under Baripada forest division in Mayurbhanj district. After receiving information, officers of Baripada range reached the spot and initiated a search operation.
