Learning Kannada is mandatory for nationalised bank employees: ADC

Karnataka: Additional District Collector Sajid Mulla has directed that employees working in all nationalized banks in the district must communicate with customers in Kannada only. Leading bank officials should take action in this regard.

On Tuesday, he held a virtual meeting with officials from various departments in the district regarding the implementation of the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Act.

He said, “There should be no complaints from the public regarding the use of Kannada in banks. Leading banks should provide necessary training to bank employees to speak fluent Kannada.”

“60 percent of nameplates of businesses and hotels operating in urban and rural areas must use the Kannada language. Fines should be imposed for non-compliance. Sixty percent of information on nameplates on highways, rural roads, and settlements must be in Kannada. “Meetings of the taluk-level committee, chaired by the Kannada Language Implementation Sub-Divisional Officer, should be held regularly,” he said.

Mangla Nayak, Assistant Director of the Kannada and Culture Department, and other officials were present.
