Nehru Yuva Kendra Kullu District Youth Officer Sonika Chandra said that this road safety campaign is focused on increasing awareness on road safety issues to prevent accidents and deaths due to them.

The campaign aims to help explain the importance of responsible driving, pedestrian safety and the imperative of better road infrastructure. In India alone, about eighty thousand people die in road accidents every year, which is thirteen percent of the total deaths in the entire world. The driver plays an important role in most accidents.

In most cases, accidents occur either due to negligence or lack of road safety awareness of the road user. So road safety education is as important as any other basic survival skill.

The objective of the road safety campaign is to create awareness among current and future road users to encourage safe road user behaviour. Nehru Yuva Kendra Kullu Twenty-five My Bharat volunteers, who registered on the My Bharat portal, have been selected by the Youth Affairs Department for this Road Safety Week. These volunteers are serving as road safety volunteers with the Traffic Police Kullu since January 11 and making people aware on road safety. The registered youth will also be given training to take the schemes of the state and central government to every person at the grassroots level.
