KTCL drivers to undergo alcometer test at all bus stops

PANJIM: In a bid to bring discipline among the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) employees especially drivers, the corporation has decided to use alcometers at all major bus stands across the State to stop drunken driving on its buses.

The drivers of buses will have to undergo an alcometer test, only if any passenger or bus stand controller finds any driver drunk while on duty, said KTCL general manager Sanjay Ghate.

The drunken driving by KTC bus drivers came to the fore after a driver of Panjim-Valpoi bus was found driving under the influence of alcohol last week.

He was later suspended by the KTCL.

Meanwhile, the KTCL will introduce two EV buses from Panjim bus terminus to the Goa University via Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim from Tuesday, November 14.

A total of 48 electric buses are proposed on various routes in Panjim under the Smart City project.
