THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC is preparing a new scheme that would offer drinking water to passengers inside the bus. The bottled water will be served at a price that is Rs one less than the market rate. The money for this scheme will be used from KSRTC’s own funds. State Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar spoke to the media about the new scheme.
KSRTC MD Pramoj Shankar told Kerala Kaumudi Online that the project will be implemented within a month. No contract has been awarded to any company at present. KSRTC should instruct the company that takes up the contract to manufacture and supply bottled water under the name they suggest. The steps for this will be initiated soon.In the first phase, bottled water will be provided only in long-distance buses. The scheme would soon be made available in buses on all routes. ‘KL 15’ is the registration number of KSRTC buses. Therefore, Pramoj Shankar said that they are considering giving the same name to the bottled water brand as well. However, a final decision is yet to be made regarding this.Along with the scheme, waste bins will be installed inside all buses. Currently, waste bins are installed only in long-distance buses. The KSRTC MD said that the waste will be properly disposed of by the KSRTC itself. In addition, the driver and conductor will earn a profit through this project. When a bottle of water is sold, the conductor will get two rupees and the driver one rupee.
