A few years ago, excavation was done by the Archeology Department in Sitabari. During the excavation, remains dating back to the Maurya period were found. Dr. Arun Sharma, who was in charge of the then Sitabari excavation, had told that in the excavation of Sirpur, remains of about 2600 years ago were found. But in the lowest layer of the excavation in Rajim, walls made of carved stones were found, built about 2800 years ago, which used to make big rooms. It is known that in ancient times, urban civilization developed on the banks of the river and civilizations originated from here. Has blossomed. Earlier people were nomads and in search of life they always gave priority to such a place where there was adequate provision of water and food. In this context, it can be assumed that with the developed civilization on the Mahanadi banks, it may be logical to find the remains of a port here due to the waterways being useful for trade exchanges. Anyway, Rajim is considered a big and main center of oil business. Even today, the caste doing oil business is in great majority in this area. The important role of Teli community in the legends of Rajim has also been heard. There is also a legend that this city got its name Rajim from the name of a devotee named Rajim Telin Bai, who was famous by the name of Kamalkshetra Padmavati Puri in ancient times.
Today, Rajim is one of the developed cities of the state. The remains of ancient heritage here are a strong indicator of the Mahanadi valley civilization of Rajim. There is no question mark on whose authenticity. Rajim’s litterateur and Bhagwatcharya Saint Krishnaranjan Tiwari has logically explained various points of Rajim in his book Mahanadi Valley Civilization, in which he has described the Mahanadi Valley Civilization as very developed and prosperous like the Indus Valley Civilization. However, this cannot be completely confirmed. Since Rajim Maghi Punni Fair has been given the form of Kumbh Kalpa by the government. Due to this, the fame of Rajim’s art, culture and civilization has also spread across the country and the world. The main reason for which is the Kumbh Kalpa organized in Rajim. This credit also goes to Rajim Kumbh Kalpa.
