KIMS Q1 profit down 47%

New Delhi. Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a leading multi-specialty hospital chain in the country, has released its financial results for the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year (FY27). According to the results, the company’s consolidated net profit for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, fell by 47.2 percent year-on-year to ₹41.5 crore. However, despite the sharp decline in profit, the company demonstrated strong operational performance, recording significant double-digit growth in both revenue and operating profit.

According to the information filed with the stock exchange, the company’s consolidated net profit stood at ₹78.6 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year (Q1 FY26), dropping to ₹41.5 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal year—marking a year-on-year decline of 47.2 percent. Nevertheless, the company clarified that its operational performance remains robust and the positive impact of expanding its hospital network is evident in the business.

Revenue from operations surged by an impressive 35.3 percent to reach ₹1,179.5 crore in the first quarter, up from ₹871.6 crore in the same period last year. This growth is attributed primarily to an increase in the number of outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) patients, as well as the expansion of new hospitals and medical facilities.

According to the company, the first-quarter business results directly benefited from the rising demand for healthcare services and the strategy to strengthen its network across various cities. Revenue has consistently improved due to the commencement of operations at new hospitals and an increase in patient volumes at existing centers. The company anticipates that this growth momentum will continue in the coming quarters.

Analysts note that for companies expanding in the healthcare sector, an increase in capital expenditure and operational costs during the initial phase is a common occurrence. In such scenarios, pressure on net profit is often observed despite a rise in revenue. This was the case with KIMS, where the scale of operations expanded rapidly, yet a decline in net profit was recorded.

However, the company’s operational performance has offered positive signals to investors. Strong performance at the operational level indicates a steadily rising demand for hospital services and effective utilization of the company’s network. The growing patient volume has led to improvements in bed occupancy rates, demand for medical services, and revenue generated from other healthcare facilities.

Healthcare sector experts believe that the increasing need for better medical facilities in India and the growing preference for private hospitals will provide a solid foundation for the sector in the coming years. Consequently, companies rapidly expanding their hospital networks stand to benefit in the long run.

Over the past few years, KIMS has consistently expanded its hospital network across South India and other regions. The company is focusing on strengthening its presence through modern medical facilities, specialist doctors, and advanced healthcare services. The impact of this strategy was clearly reflected in the first-quarter revenue figures.

Market experts note that investors look beyond just net profit, focusing also on operational efficiency, revenue growth, and future expansion plans. Although KIMS saw a dip in profit in its quarterly results, robust revenue growth signals that the company’s core business remains on a growth trajectory.

The company maintains a positive outlook for the future. Management has stated that investments will continue to be made in expanding hospital capacity, launching new medical services, and providing superior healthcare facilities to patients. Simultaneously, efforts to improve profitability by enhancing operational efficiency and controlling costs will continue.

Overall, the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year was a mixed bag for KIMS. While net profit fell by nearly half, the company achieved strong double-digit growth in revenue and operational performance, signaling the continued expansion of its core business. In the coming quarters, investors and the market will be watching to see how the company translates its growing business into better profitability.
